Nineteen year-old Anton Yelchin may have scored himself yet another role as the younger version of an established science fiction hero. He's been shooting scenes as Pavel Chekov in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek prequel movie, and now he may be playing a young Kyle Reese in Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.
SPOILERS FOR ORIGINAL TERMINATOR
In James Cameron's now-classic The Terminator (1984), Reese (Michael Biehn) came back in time in order to protect and impregnate Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) so that she could give birth to the future savior of the human race. According to The Hollywood Reporter:
Reese, one of the children who survived a machine-driven nuclear holocaust, befriends Marcus (Sam Worthington), an early edition of the Terminator cyborg played in previous films by Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Christian Bale will play his 30-year-old son, John Connor, the leader of the human insurgency against the machines. McG is planning to direct. The other big news is that Paul Haggis (Crash, Casino Royale, Walker: Texas Ranger) has been hired to fix up the screenplay a bit. His track record is a bit spotty here and there, but overall he knows how to write and he should help put some fears to rest about the directorial abilities of controversial choice McG.
