News > Woody Harrelson joins the cast for the apocalyptic "2012"

Via: MTV

Woody Harrelson revealed exclusively to MTV News that he has a starring role in Roland Emmerich’s apocalyptic “2012,” which he will begin shooting shortly in Vancouver.

“I don’t know why they thought of me,” Harrelson chuckled. “But I like the idea.”

It’s an idea that we have thanks to the Mayans, who predicted the world would end on December 21, 2012, taking with it everything we know and love up to and including time itself. That means earthquakes, floods, volcanic eruptions, the end of days. Believe it, said Harrelson - even if in no one else does, confessing that his character is a sort of modern version of the Greek Cassandra, a prophet nobody believes.

“I play a guy who’s been talking for a long time, the whole world thinks he’s crazy,” Harrelson said of his character. “But he’s been talking that there’s gonna be hell to pay for what’s been going on ecologically and everything.”

Also starring John Cusack, Danny Glover, and Amanda Peet, “2012” heralds the apocalypse a bit early, hitting theaters in 2009.

I wonder if this film will have a happy ending, where everything turns out okay after a couple of days of terrible stuff happening, i.e. millions of people die (but a dog just makes it at the last moment), large building topple and/or explodes, etc. and everyone celebrates. Roland Emmerich makes very predictable movies with large expensive sets and special effects, but little imagination.
