Wolfgang Petersen, the German-born director behind Das Boot and The Perfect Storm, is set to direct Uprising, a sci-fi thriller for Columbia. According to Variety, the "story revolves around the resistance efforts of some citizens after Earth has been occupied by a powerful alien race." Charles Leavitt (Blood Diamond) is writing the screenplay. Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher (Gladiator) are producing through Red Wagon.

Petersen has had a streak of misfires in recent years, but maybe, just maybe, this time he'll be able to prove that 1981's Das Boot wasn't a fluke.
