German director Wim Wenders ("Wings of Desire") will direct a film about an American serial killer in Tokyo called "The Miso Soup." According to Variety, he's currently in talks with actor Willem Dafoe, who may be interested in playing the serial killer. The remainder of the cast will be Japanese, though the film is expected to be primarily in English with some Japanese. The psychological thriller will be based on a 1998 novel by Ryu Murakami.

Production is expected to get rolling next February with a fall 2010 release date penciled in. That's an awfully long production period to go through for an 8 million dollar movie. Then again, who said low budget filmmaking was easy?
