"Pope of Trash" John Waters is back after a four year hiatus from directing with "Fruitcake," a film about a boy named after his favorite dessert. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fruitcake "runs away from home during the holidays after he and his parents are caught shoplifting meat, then meets up with a runaway girl raised by two gay men and searching for her birth mother." It's odd how this plot seems absurdly normal when placed on the shelf next to the rest of Waters' work. I'm sure he'll throw in some shocks though, just to keep the audience on their toes.
The cast will include Johnny Knoxville, who appeared in Waters' last film "A Dirty Shame," and Parker Posey, who despite extensive work in independent film and sharing a birth place with the director, has never appeared in one of his films. This Is That Productions and Killer Films are producing.
