As the Writers Guild of America gains ground with the smaller production companies, major studios are preparing their non-writing employees for impending dismissal. The Hollywood Reporter reports that up to 1000 Warner Brothers workers could be laid off any time starting this Friday. The WB sent out WARN notices back on November 12, which give the employees 60 days notice of potential job eliminations. If you haven't already done the math, that means today is the 58th day since those notices were issued. It would be ridiculously optimistic to believe that a settlement can be reached before Friday, but hopefully the WGA and the AMPTP will be able to work out a fair deal before too long, and these people with nothing to gain and everything to lose will be able to return to their jobs. No matter which side of the strike you side with, you have to sympathize with those crew members stuck in the middle.
