News > Wallace to Direct Arcanum

Written by David Morgan

Randall Wallace, who wrote the screenplays for Braveheart and Atlas Shrugged, and directed We Were Soldiers and The Man in the Iron Mask, will helm The Arcanum for Paul Brooks's Gold Circle. The screenplay was written by Thomas Wheeler, who adapted his own novel. According to The Hollywood Reporter,

The 1919-set story follows Arthur Conan Doyle as he leads a secret society known as the Arcanum – whose members include magician Harry Houdini, voodoo priestess Marie Laveau and horror writer H.P. Lovecraft – against a powerful supernatural force that threatens the world.

Sounds a bit derivative of Alan Moore's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and we all know how that fared at the box office as well as with the critics.

It already sounds cooler than LXG WAS. Granted no one can beat Alan Moore on the comic page...now if they'd only stop fuckin' up his comics when they adapt them. It's kind of hard to really take the cool out of Lovecraft, Houdini, and Doyle though. He better not make this "just ok" like his other directorial pieces.
