Mario Van Peebles will direct his own sci-fi screenplay The Uniter, with Don Kushner and Brad Wyman (Monster) producing. According to Variety, The Uniter "chronicles the journey of a political fugitive who escapes from the future back to the present to teach a 13-year-old how to use his powers to unite the warring factions of the world before it's too late for planet Earth."

MVP has been developing this idea for several years, deriving the inspiration from travels in India and the mythology surrounding the Aztec calendar ending in 2012. He, Kushner, and Wyman have most recently worked together on the Wesley Snipes starrer Hard Luck, and they hope to begin shooting Uniter in January.
