German schlockmeister Uwe Boll has brought suit against "Titanic" actor Billy Zane, alleging that Zane and Romar Entertainment CEO James Schramm owe the director $700,000 in revenues from box office flop "Bloodrayne," which Zane starred in. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Boll claims that Zane suggested using Romar to handle distribution, with the promise that Boll's $10 million advance would be used for advertising and promotion, and would guarantee an opening weekend in 2000 theaters. In reality, the film only opened in 950 theaters, and Boll claims that at least $900,000 went directly to Zane and Schramm. All of this, in conjunction with a staggering lack of quality, led to the film making a mere $4 million worldwide, despite costing $25 million to make.
Dr. Boll isn't exactly known as a reliable guy (he often refers to himself as the only genius in the film industry) but if what he says is true, it certainly sounds like he got a raw deal. Also, in case you're wondering about the pro- and anti-Boll petitions, both have slowed down considerably, but 2114 say that Boll should go on making films, while 231056 insist that he stop. Just to put this in perspective, imagine the entire city of Scottsdale, Arizona (pop. 231,127) wanted you to quit your job, and the student body of a crowded public high school in Philadelphia wanted you to keep working. Actually, that just muddles things up, doesn't it? The point is he's outnumbered 100 to 1.
