Timothy J. Sexton, co-writer of the Oscar-nominated screenplay for Alfonso Cuaron's "Children of Men," has been hired to adapt a Spanish sci-fi thriller called "Los Cronocrimenes," or, as it will be known in English-speaking countries, "Timecrimes." Nacho Vigalondo wrote and directed the original, which played at Sundance in January and was immediately grabbed by Magnolia for distribution and United Artists for remake rights.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Steven Zaillian (director of "All the King's Men," writer of "Schindler's List") will produce the remake along with Agnes Metre. The plot is described as "a noirish thriller about a man who travels back in time half an hour to prevent a serious crime." Sounds like it has potential, especially with Sexton aboard. He knows Spanish (he was one of the translators for "Amores Perros"), and more importantly, he seems to know science fiction (he's also adapting the remake of "Logan's Run" according to IMDb).
