News > The Weinsteins to Turn "Fraggle Rock" into a Feature

The Weinstein Co. is in preparation to adapt Jim Henson's "Fraggle Rock" into a feature-length, live-action musical film. "Hoodwinked" helmer Cory Edwards is in place to write the screenplay and direct the film about "Gogo, Wembley, Mokey, Boober, and Red" as they travel outside of Fraggle Rock and interact with humans, believing them to be aliens (Variety).

The original show by Jim Henson premiered on HBO in 1983 and ran for five seasons. Relatively successful DVD sales for the first three seasons helped to convince the studios that "Fraggle Rock" might be due for an adaptation. According to Harvey Weinstein, this is all part of TWC's continued commitment to bringing a "broad range of family-friendly franchises" to the populace.

Thank God for people like the Weinstein's it would be a shame if any wholesome 80s TV show or movie remained unadapted. I mean after you sell your soul you have to find every venue possible to squeeze money from. And heaven forbid someone would have to come up with a new idea!!

This would only work if Henson was involved somehow. Otherwise this is a very bad idea.

Then I think it's safe to call it a bad idea.

Well, technically the "Jim Henson Co." is producing it (Jim's kids) so maybe some of the original talent will be back. Who knows at this point?
