Editorials > The Trailer for "Disaster Movie"

Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer are continuing their reign of terror with their fourth directorial outing, "Disaster Movie." You may recall their earlier films, "Date Movie," "Epic Movie," and "Meet the Spartans." They earned a cumulative seven good reviews between the three of them, but some fools evidently liked them as each turned a small but significant profit. I know it's hip to hate on these guys, but I have an odd respect for people who know what they want to do, do it really badly, and then continue to do the same thing ad nauseam while ignoring the hundreds of critics and thousands of citizens who want them to stop. That takes determination and grit.

That said, "Disaster Movie" looks like more of the same. Empty pop culture references, uninspired slapstick, no wit to be found. The casts of these movies have gotten progressively worse, too. According to IMDb, the only "names" associated with this "movie" are Carmen Electra and Kimberly Kardashian (of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians"). Well, take a look. I don't need to sit here and try to convince you that this will be bad. Their marketing will take care of that.

Complaining about this movie is only going to fuel the fire and give it publicity (even if it's negative).

We all know that these movies are an abomination, and I think the best way for us movie-folks to combat them is to simply ignore them and not give them any sort of acknowledgment. Hopefully this would lead to a good chunk of the movie's audience never knowing of it's release, because the only way these things are going to end are when they stop making money,
