I saw The Seeker yesterday with Zelly. It was really good. I didn’t know what to expect. I’m not a big fantasy guy, magic and all that. Not my thing. I had open eyes though. I’d had heard that it was a good movie. I wanted to like it. That’s how I feel about things. I want to have a good time. I want to enjoy movies. I’m no hater.
Anyhow, here’s the deal. This kid finds out that he’s The Seeker. It’s like a magic gift bestowed on him. So he’s The Seeker and he has to locate six signs in five days or the darkness will envelope the Earth. Quite literally. The Dark is represented by The Rider, an evil dude who rides a horse and has powers and all that. He’s the baddie.
The signs are scattered all about his town, just not in the present. There’s some time travel here. When he stumbles upon the location of where a sign was once located he is transported to the time period when the sign was actually on the spot. Get it? It’s like archeology except when he finds the bone he time travels to when the dino was alive.
Helping him on his quest are The Old Ones. Ian Mcshane from Deadwood and the mom from Six Feet Under lead two workmen-soldiers on a life long battle to keep the darkness at bay. The four are powerful but need The Seeker to find the signs which increase his power to be on par with The Rider. It’s kind of confusing to explain but during the movie it makes perfect sense. It’s all very clear.
I totally enjoyed this. It was great fun. I have heard that it might lead to sequels. If that’s the case I’ll be there. Let’s see, Ephrem from Everwood was in it as The Seeker’s older brother. I haven’t seen him since the show went off the air. I liked Everwood. It was just so damn depressing. Nothing good ever happened to the Brown’s. They were totally cursed. Oh, there was this cute chick, what was her name…? Amelia Warner.
I don’t know what else to say. It was fun. The movie was tight. Not a lot of extra poo. Well, there was this thing about twin brothers that didn’t seem crucial but it might be something that plays into sequels. I can see that happening.
The Seeker is a family film and on that level it is very good. It has adventure, bravery, loyalty, love for your family and all sorts of positive values. It sounds stupid but as a parent I like stories like this. The lessons are the sort that are hard to teach in the real world but come across very easily on film. Good movie. Fun for all.
