Director Oliver Stone is looking to stir up the political pot yet again with his dramatization of the administration of current president George W. Bush. So far the film is simply being called Bush (in the vein of Stone's Nixon and JFK) and is set to star Josh Brolin in the eponymous role. According to The Hollywood Reporter,
Stone hopes to begin production on Bush as early as the spring in order to release the film by the fall election. But securing financing in the midst of an election cycle in which even the Republican candidates for the presidency are distancing themselves from Bush could present a challenge if the film is to be completed before Bush fades from the scene.
The screenplay has already been completed by Stanley Weiser who co-wrote Stone's Wall Street and also wrote Rudy: The Rudy Giuliani Story. Moritz Borman and John Kilik will produce.
Sounds like Stone is trying to make himself a Controversial Presidency DVD Box Set. The THR article doesn't mention whether this movie will look on Bush favorably or critically, but it's hard to imagine stretching the good points of his presidency out to a full 90 minutes.
