John Singleton has been trying to convince people that his Luke Cage movie is being made, though at best one could say it is "still in development." The Boyz n the Hood director told MTV that he wants Tyrese Gibson to play the titular character and he thinks it would be nice if Terrence Howard played the villain. What villain? Is there even a script yet?
For the uninitiated, Luke Cage AKA Power Man, was the first African American superhero to get his own monthly comic book back in the 1970s, thanks in part to the success of Shaft and other blaxploitation films.
Later, while discussing Samuel L. Jackson's cameo as Nick Fury in the upcoming Iron Man movie, Singleton mentions that he'd love to direct that nonexistent movie. "I hope he (Jackson) plays Nick Fury. Oh my God! That would be so awesome! He’d be really cool.” I may laugh at this guy for sounding like an eleven year old in a comic books store, but at the same time I admire his enthusiasm for the material and for his chosen profession. Now he just needs to prove that he's better than his last couple films have made him look.
