Variety says that Darren Lynn Bousman, director of Saw II and III, will be directing a remake of the 1981 Cronenberg flick Scanners (the movie that this shot came from).
Apart from the usual film greek complaints of "The original was better and does not need a remake, waaaah," this doesn't seem like the best fit. While Saw III really wasn't that bad, it hardly seems like anyone with a real knowledge of film could finish watching it and then assume that the director could handle a Cronenberg remake. Cronenberg's horror isn't just about sex and gore, but includes a shitload of political satire, usually about challenging the ruling class and societal revolution, and all that.
So how is Bousman going to update it and make it timely? Stem cell research. Potentially effective, yeah, but not without all the other social crticisms.
