Samuel L. Jackson is set to star in the fact-based Unfinished Country, a Training Day-style thriller from screenwriter Mark Wheaton (The Messengers). Set in South Africa, Jackson will play Elton, the chief administrator of an overcrowded hospital located in the violent Soweto ghettos. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Elton's methods of treating patients are put into question when a young U.S. medical student arrives to do his residency and the hospital gets caught in the crossfire of local gang warfare."
The story takes place in the largest hospital in the world, Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, and the film will be shot on location in South Africa. William Sherak, Jason Shuman, Bill Johnson and Tim O'Hair are producing. Jim Seibel will serve as executive producer. It'll be interesting to see if Jackson can pull off a South African accent. He's a good actor, but I don't think he's ever tried anything other than "loud" or "grave."
