News > Roth Discusses the Dangers of "Stoned Zombies" in his Upcoming Trailer Trash

Written by David Morgan

Eli Roth is working on a movie inspired by his participation on Grindhouse (see: the trailer for Roth's fake horror film Thanksgiving). This new project is called Trailer Trash and it will be a feature film that also contains a number of fake trailers. He said that for the most part he would be directing them all himself (with possibly allowing Edgar Wright one or two).

Roth revealed to MTV that the project will be released on August 22nd 2008 and accidentally let it slip that one of the segments would feature "a guy who gives a zombie weed, and the zombie gets the munchies," thereby making the zombie even more dangerous. Finally someone is really talking about the issues of drug-use in relation to the undead.

Roth also promised a lot of cameos, as celebrities love doing a day's work on a zany fake movie. As for the structure of the film:

There is a story. You can’t just put a bunch of fake trailers back-to-back; that would just get a little repetitive. I want to make a film like Kentucky Fried Movie or Groove Tube, but really something like Monty Python and the Holy Grail, something that’s just ridiculously balls-out funny.

Admittedly, Thanksgiving was pretty good, but can Roth really do comedy? Everything I've ever heard him say has been very serious or angry, whether about his critics or piracy or his vehement opposition to the term "torture porn." I've never seen or heard anything (aside from Thanksgiving) that even indicated he had a sense of humor.

Are you sure you're not confusing him with Eli Whitney, inventor of the cotton gin? Now THAT guy was funny.

If his next project was inspired by the one project of his that IS funny though...doesn't that stand to reason that it will be comical?

Exactly. That's why all remakes are pure gold.
