Director Michael Corrente is heading back to his home state of Rhode Island for "The Prince of Providence," a political biopic with a solid cast that includes Dermot Mulroney, Adam Goldberg, Bradley Cooper, Ed Burns, and Oliver Platt. Robin Williams is still in talks, with his participation depending on scheduling issues.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Platt will play Mayor Vincent "Buddy" Cianci, "the man who dominated Providence's political machine for 21 years. The drama chronicles a roller-coaster series of ups and downs for one of America's longest-serving mayors." Michael Stanton wrote the nonfiction book "The Prince of Providence" back in 2003, David Mamet wrote the adaptation, and Howard Korder ("Stealing Sinatra") provided a polish. Steven Soderbergh will executive produce.
Corrente's previous works include "Outside Providence" and an adaptation of Mamet's play "American Buffalo" starring Dustin Hoffman, Dennis Franz, and Sean Nelson.
