The next Rambo flick will be written, directed, and starred in by Sylvester Stallone. It will be called "John Rambo." Gee, that sounds kind of familiar.

Anyway, "John Rambo" will include Sam "The Mustache" Elliot, and Michael "Cyclops" Marsden in supporting roles.

It's pretty easy to understand what Stallone is trying to do here – Rocky Balboa succeeded mostly on nostalgia value, and so too might Rambo IV. Except that while the Rocky movies had a pretty strong theme running throughout all six installments (determination, rooting for the underdog, etc), the Rambo movies pretty much devolved into mindless killfests after First Blood.

But then again, who knows? This is evidently the time to deconstruct and reinvent our most beloved action heroes, so why not?
