News > Rainn Wilson in "Transformers 2"

Rainn Wilson of "The Office" fame has reportedly been cast in "Transformers 2" as a college professor at Shia LaBeouf's character's college. The news was first broken by Wilson himself during an interview with MTV after a screening of his new film "The Rocker." Wilson claimed to be playing "a college professor that turns into a robot that then turns into a car." He also admitted to not having read the script yet.

One might almost think that the perpetually facetious actor was just kidding about his involvement, but The Hollywood Reporter has backed it up, saying that indeed he would be playing "a college professor to LaBeouf's new undergrad."

Shooting has already begun in Los Angeles, and the production is about to continue in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, at Lehigh University. Most of the stars of the first film are returning, including LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, and John Turturro. The Hollywood Reporter calls this casting "a shrewd play for a comedy crowd that might not otherwise patronize a bombastic Bay extravaganza." Yeah, because if there's one thing "Transformers 2" will need to do, it's play to a wider audience
