On Pussy Cat Dolls Movie? at 09/04/2008 04:46am

"dancing and singing"
Singing? really? So at least they will show something they never did before...

On Zack and Miri Make A Porno Red Band Trailer at 09/04/2008 04:28am

Frank i'm entirely with you on this one.
The reason why i love Kevin Smith so much? That man loves movies. He enjoys doing what he does and it shows. He has fun trying all kinds of stuff and isn't afraid of mistakes. If things work however he's just brilliant.
And as far as that trailer goes: It worked for me. I MUST see that movie.

On Five reasons why TDK's success is surprising at 08/18/2008 06:00am

Reason #1 is of course utter nonsense, as movieluva76 has correctly pointed out.
The length is something i personally see as a bonus in a movie that has a good story to present. I hate it when things seem cut together because the producers wanted to "not bore the audience".
And as far as superhero fatigue goes:
I don't think that is a valid argument. With the amount of superhero-movies increasing, or the amount of comic-adaptions, you also get more expertise in the audience. You get those that go for the colorful, family-friendly style (Fantastic 4), those who just like their action-movie, those who look for stunning visuals and those who want to see a good story.
It is a little like claiming people get tired of comedies, thrillers or cop-movies. Of course there is always a point where you think you have seen one too many, but then again there will always be a new idea, that surprises you and reminds you why you started to like that type of movie or movies in general.
And frankly from a certain point on, you start to get crossover types of movies, that can take the whole genre to a new level.
And for the whole argument:
Top of the line cast
Giant marketing effort
Very good predecessor
Did any body have a serious doubt, that this one wouldn't manage to break even? Even half a year ago, i didn't.

On Werewolves Suck... At Least As Movies at 08/09/2008 05:14am

Talking about other Were-Creatures:
Well, i for example am a Were-PC - you can only kill me by shooting me with a silver floppy...

On 'Dark Knight' Prediction: $130M Weekend at 07/15/2008 3:50pm

Unfortunately WB was unable to make a mostly simultaneous international release so i will have to wait several months until i can see it.
But i bet this will take the number one in opening weekends this year and keep it.

On New Sheriff in Town at 07/15/2008 3:47pm

Well and speaking of changes: Why aren't the names of the authors in the articles? They only show in the list on the main page.
It would be nice if you could see them in the articles and probably click them to find a list of what that specific author has written lately to better understand his point of view.

On Hollywood Needs to Bring Back Children's Horror Comedies at 06/25/2008 05:30am

Oh and btw. Eragon is one you might have mentioned:
Great book, very intense, lots of gore - poor, castrated kid-movie.

On Hollywood Needs to Bring Back Children's Horror Comedies at 06/25/2008 05:27am

Personally i see neither "The Lost Boys" nor "Doctor Who" as kids movies, but that is personal preference.
I agree with the point, that those sugar glaced Disney movies and the rainbow-lollipop-stuff are a disgrace.
But on the other hand: The Harry Potter movies become more violent with every new release (which is in accordance with the books) and if the "His dark materials" series keeps up with literature, then the followers of "The golden Compass" won't be easy to swallow as well.
Old fairy tales were violent as hell, which was portrayed quite nicely in "Brothers Grimm", which, in a sense, fits as a kids movie as well.

On FW FEATURE: Movies that peaked in the first ten minutes at 06/16/2008 07:20am

Well i would argue that the highlight in "Swordfish" was Halle Berry topless, but other than that i can agree.

On "Prince Caspian" Comes Out on Top, But Below Expectations at 05/19/2008 03:49am

Well, personally i find the Narnia series boring as hell and i wish them all the worst. The success of the first installment was a disappointment anyway.
I went twice to see Iron Man because it was the first movie i really liked this year, but i also have the tickets for Indy4 in my pocket and are looking forward to see it on wednesday.
I don't know if it will be good enough to see it a second time, but based on the trailers i want to beleive it is.
And if it should turn out to be mediocre i will keep looking forward to Hellboy2 and The dark knight returns.

On Verbinski to Direct "Bioshock" Adaptation at 05/13/2008 04:02am

My personal thanks go to ohcomeonnow for demonstrating to all of us, that a good rant can only come from the mentally challenged.
Simple question: If lots of people like the game, so much in fact, that they buy it and it runs without any major bugs, why do you think the game is a failure? Oh, i'm sorry think doesn't seem to be your strong part.
Anyway: There was a very good reason WHY the city was underwater. And it's probably not so very bright if you start to criticize the story and then proceed to complain about game mechanics.

On Verbinski to Direct "Bioshock" Adaptation at 05/09/2008 05:21am

Well i did play the game and liked it a lot. The story is excellent and the world of Bioshock should make for a very interesting production design.
The names you mention in the news make me hope for a good movie althuogh of course there is a trap: If the movie would turn out to become a mere horror flic then it would be a failure because the game centers around the utopical idea of a city (under water) where the mind of scientists and intellectuals can act freely and what becomes of that ideal.

On Mel Gibson Returns to Star in "Edge of Darkness" at 04/29/2008 05:21am

I am really looking forward to this. I have always liked Gibson and this soundy like the type of role that he is best in.

On Tetris: The Movie. You'll believe a man can create a row. at 04/18/2008 04:12am

Really great work.
But to be honest: If someone had presented this to me as a real trailer for an upcoming movie, i wouldn't have doubted it for a second.
Merchandise for that movie would be really cheap to make...
Next of course there must be the Tetris TV series. Tetris - There's a new block in town!

On Spielberg to Make "Ghost in the Shell" in 3-D at 04/15/2008 04:52am

I thought about this for quite some time, but all considered i think this might turn out to be a good combination. Ghost in the shell is quite suitable for a 3-D CGI version (the trailer from the TV series is made that way), and Spielberg is certainly not the worst choice to adapt this.
It should be something to look forward to.

On Berg Confirmed to Direct Dune at 03/18/2008 07:39am

As i stated before: The design of the David Lynch version with a bit more of the books story, some real good actors (like David Lynch had) and i am a happy man.
I also repeat my suggestion to ask one or two of the 1984 actors.
And please don't cast some boring kid as Paul Atreides (Christian Bale would be my first choice)

On "The Hottie and the Nottie" proves the nonexistence of God at 02/12/2008 03:54am

I was merely pointing out how paradox it is to bemoan a persons popularity while at the same time contributing to it (on whatever scale).
On the same base i could start an argument if Ms. Hiltons media presence derives from the media arguing where her media presence comes from.

On "The Hottie and the Nottie" proves the nonexistence of God at 02/11/2008 05:13am

OK.... and writing one of the longest editorials in a while just because of PH does contibute to getting that attention whore less publicity in what way?
Seriously: Who actually expected this to become a screen classic? And even if for some inexplicable reason it had, who would have expected a single positive review?
This leads to the simple conclusion, that this entire page is obsolete if not counterproductive.

On Actor Heath Ledger Has Died at 01/23/2008 05:58am

Although i peronally mourne the loss of a great actor, my condolences go to his daughter, who will now have to grow up without ever getting a chance to really come to know her daddy.

On The Razzies Announced! at 01/22/2008 07:06am

I haven't seen these movies either, but the list makes it quite obvious, that it's only intent is to embarass certain people, since apparently only top movies have been counted. There are so many bad movies, that get STD (Straight-to-DVD) Releases, like lots of action movies and i don't see a single one on the list.
I think the Razzies are by now awarded by a bunch of self righteous bastards, who just crave the attention they get from this.
Just forget about those whiners.
