On Tarantino's "Bastards" at 07/10/2008 00:13am
I wonder if they'll finally follow-through. I remember when this was going to get made right after Kill Bill.
Then again, some leaked tracks of "Chinese Democracy" have appeared online...
On WALL-E at 06/27/2008 7:46pm
I think your predictions will be right on, or very close, as usual. Except the Hulk. No way will it make nearly 30 mil. I'd give it 20 mil tops.

On Spielberg Examines "39 Clues" at 06/26/2008 10:59am
If only one person on the planet solves it, yeah probably. But if there's one person smart enough to figure it out, there's bound to be more. And the more people solve the puzzle, the more likely it is that the answer will end up on the internet. I can believe in one person keeping their mouth shut, but not hundreds or thousands.
Unless, of course, it's a matter of who answers first. We may not know enough to speculate on all this.

On FW FEATURE: Movies that peaked in the first ten minutes at 06/16/2008 9:42pm
FatalError,
Actually, I completely agree with you! I didn't write this article. Though he didn't sign it, if you go to the main page you can see that Anthony is responsible for this one. I think there are elements of SPR (for example, the aforementioned reappearance of "Steamboat Willie") that are ill-conceived but for the most part I think it's a great movie and one of Spielberg's best (which is intended as high praise, though I know and respect quite a few detractors who would say the opposite).
That said, you are incorrect about "Steamboat Willie" (the nickname of the German the unit let go, according to IMDb). Oddly enough, there is a Saving Private Ryan Online Encyclopedia. Check out these two articles:
http://www.sproe.com/s/steamboat-german.html
http://www.sproe.com/s/steamboat-comparison.html
I've made the same mistake myself. I think in the chaos of the final battle (a good sequence that I think could sum up the case alone as to why the Omaha beach landing isn't the only peak) it's an easy one to make.
Thanks for the feedback, anyway.
On FW FEATURE: Movies that peaked in the first ten minutes at 06/15/2008 02:41am
Shane, it's been a few years since I've seen the film, but I'm pretty sure it's the same German. That's why it's so significant and why Jeremy Davies' character decides to kill him after they've surrendered. He was the one who advocated letting the German live, only to have the same soldier kill Miller.
It's kind of a contrived idea, so I can't blame you for not believing it, but that is what happened. Not that it's the most reliable source, but Wikipedia says so too.

On HULK at 06/15/2008 02:26am
It might be too late for me to enter, but I'd go with 85 million domestic + 100 international = 185 worldwide. The buzz has been actually rather good about the film, but I think there's a lot of competition right now and that's going to keep it from topping 100 domestically.
On New Red-Band "Happening" Trailer at 06/04/2008 01:15am
Sounds like a "Reefer Madness"-style video made by the government to warn 1950s suburbia of the dangers of "the homosexuals."
On Hollywood Liberals for Obama! at 05/30/2008 00:47am
All I know is that he called my house in 2004 to tell me that I should vote for George Bush, or Islamofascists would do to my country what the communists had done to his (not verbatim).
On Babelgum Party at Cannes at 05/14/2008 11:18pm
Cool! Thanks for the tip.
On The Weinsteins to Turn "Fraggle Rock" into a Feature at 05/13/2008 11:46pm
Then I think it's safe to call it a bad idea.
Well, technically the "Jim Henson Co." is producing it (Jim's kids) so maybe some of the original talent will be back. Who knows at this point?
On Check Out Samuel L. Jackson as The Octopus at 05/13/2008 1:07pm
Whoops.
On Demetri Martin Could Be the Lead of Ang Lee's "Woodstock" at 05/03/2008 04:06am
Agreed, I think he's one of the best stand-ups working today.
On Uwe Boll Sues Billy Zane (Not Kidding) at 05/02/2008 01:47am
I write these articles late at night and my math skills are the first to go. Good catch.
On Bardem Drops Out of "Nine" at 05/02/2008 01:42am
Ian, valid point. But it's not like any movie is a sure thing from the get-go. There's something to be said for experimentation. Christian Bale (whom Bardem would have co-starred with in "Killing Pablo") is excellent at balancing quality and quantity. He does about two films a year and, in the past few years at least, all of his films have been interesting or unusual or something worth looking at. Even the ones that aren't "good."
But mostly I'm just ribbing him for tiring so easily.
On Paramount Reveals New Blu-Ray Releases at 05/01/2008 00:07am
Oh, I see. In the original article they said "Slated for international-market release" which I interpreted as "the whole world including America," when they really meant "everywhere not-America." Sorry about the confusion. That is indeed a Blu-Ray disc you own and not a particularly thick slice of Genoa salami as I had at first suspected.

On Official "Hellboy 2" Trailer Out at 04/04/2008 9:10pm
True, but if you go to IMDb, it still lists David Hyde Pierce as the (uncredited) voice of Abe in the first movie, while it does not for the second. Not that IMDb is accurate 100% of the time. Indeed, sometimes far from it.
