On Why the hell are you excited for Transformers 2? at 06/22/2008 01:58am

First off, the people who think Armageddon is some kind of new classic should not be included in any serious discussion about movies. It was schlocky crap at it's ADD infected, shallow-character, cliched worst. It was not a good movie whatsoever. Even the F/X have aged poorly.

Second, Michael Bay is a hack. Plain and simple. Arnoldez did a good job summarizing his resume. That being said, Transformers was not "that bad". Transformers is my generation, and as someone mentioned, he did as well as he could with the material. It had a nice sense of wonder and excitement, almost like the first time I saw the TV show as a kid. Too bad Transformers was about 30 minutes too long and didn't jettison the embarrassing stereotypes. They have racial profiling on Cybertron? Also, pimping GM automobiles added a 2+ hour commercial element to the proceedings. Not fun.

I think the only reason it came out as good as it did is Mr. Spielberg. The editorial didn't like the human element, which was my favorite part. Turturro was absolutely nutso, like he came in from "Miller's Crossing" on speed. Shia did OK, although Megan Fox was the token hot chick (YAWN). So it was Bay's best movie, which means it was a C+.

So, in summary, I am not excited about the sequel. But relax!
