On Why the hell are you excited for Transformers 2? at 06/22/2008 00:30am

To each his own, but in my opinion, this franchise, under Michael Bay's direction, does no justice to the original series. Yeah, I agree, the original series was shaky at best, with very little plot and silly 80's animation, but honestly what animated TV series from our childhood era did deserve any sort of award? They're cartoons, they're supposed to be simple and fun, for children. As we grow up with the cartoon in our heads, we give it quality it probably never had to begin with, and for a film to be successful (and by successful I mean pleasurable to watch, not profitable), the creators of the movie are going to have to add in a lot of quality and still stick with the original quirky antics of the original series. The Ninja Turtles films did this (both the live action and animated films), the latest Batman series does this, and most of the superhero movies do (I realize that a lot of these are originally from comics turned cartoons, but you get my point). Transformers fails in this aspect as a film. I wanted to cry when I saw the first one. Luckily, I didn't spend ten dollars at the theatres to see it and instead waited to rent it for free with my Blockbuster Online free trade-in.

Armageddon - sucked.
Bad Boys - sucked.
Pearl Harbor - sucked.
The Island - sucked.

I know I'll get burned for saying all of this, but not one of those films had any quality to them at all. They were all just overbudgeted pieces of shit. My only hope is that they kick Michael Bay off in the next 10 years and restart the series, like they did with Batman. Hell, maybe they'll even get Christian Bale involved.
