Variety reports that Michael "Heat" Mann and Leonardo "Show Me All The Blueprints" DiCaprio are teaming for an untitled film noir project.
The film, which will take place on a 1930's MGM lot, follows a PI (DiCaprio) who covers up the scandals created by Hollywood stars, and, in this case, investigates the possible murder of a man by his celebrity starlet wife.
So, it's LA Confidential. But knowing Mann, it'll be shot on digital, thereby making it look grainy and blurry. Don't get me wrong: I loved the first 9/10 of Collateral as much as the next guy, but using the same grainy, realistic look Mann implemented in Miami Vice in a period film noir will more likely than not end up looking artificial and tacky. Noirs are supposed to look grainy and dark, but they most definitely aren't supposed to be blurry and handheld.
