This week, John Singleton received the go ahead to direct Executive Order: Six, the oddly-titled thriller about "the residents of a small, snowbound town, who band together to fight a mysterious horror that turns out to be an alien being unleashed by a plane crash" (Variety). Philip Eisner wrote the screenplay based on his story co-written by Robbie Consing. Ryan Kavanaugh's company Relativity is financing. Lawrence Bender and Karen Barber will produce. Singleton had been expecting to direct Tulia when that project was delayed, not by the strike, but by Halle Berry's pregnancy.
John Singleton remains the youngest person ever to be nominated for a best director Oscar (for Boyz n the Hood), though his post-1991 credits might not betray that. Hopefully, at some point during production, Singleton or someone else with common sense will realize that the title will keep audiences away as they will think they've missed the first five Executive Order films.
