Jennifer Chambers Lynch, whom some cinephiles may recall played the little girl in her father David's 1977 breakthrough independent film "Eraserhead," has been hired to direct "Nagin," a horror thriller starring Bollywood actors Mallika Sherawat and Irfan Khan ("The Namesake"). The story is based on the Far Eastern myth of the snake woman who is able to take on human form (Variety).
Lynch has only directed two films to date. The first was 1993's "Boxing Helena," starring Julian Sands, Sherilyn Fenn, Bill Paxton, Kurtwood Smith, and Art Garfunkel. The film was a critical and commercial failure and fifteen years passed before Lynch would resurface in the film world. Hoping she'd fare better with Bill Pullman, she unspooled "Surveillance" at Cannes, and though it received no awards, it did manage to get picked up for distribution. Julia Ormond and French Stewart also star.
Variety also reports that Govind Menon, president of Split Image, will produce and finance "Nagin" with Vikram Singh co-producing. Production is set to start in India next month.
