News > Jack Black's Green Lantern was "too weird."

Written by John Lichman

It would be wrong to consider the new Justice League of America film a hot property, since it has such wonderful potential to be a complete piece of trash. But what if it's good? What if the relatively unknown, rumored cast manages to pull off spandex and CGI to X-Men 2 levels? What if Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman came across as characters over caricatures? And the Green Lantern used his power ring for 90 minutes to make his dick bigger!

Luckily, you don't ever have to worry about that last one.

MTV's Movies Blog caught up with Jack for Be Kind, Rewind we assume and got off on a tangent about his once-rumored Green Lantern adaptation.

"'I was going to be making all kinds of stuff,' Black said of the ring, which gives its possessor the power to create anything that can be imagined, and in the comic books usually manifests itself as green cages, weapons, walls, boxing gloves, etc.

'I was going to be capturing bad guys with green, giant prophylactics,” Black remembered of one scene in the script. “Some funny stuff.'"

MTV points out that Common is currently up for the role of GL, most likely playing the character of John Stewart–oddly enough, Eddie Murphy was also in talks to play GL in the 80s. Weird, huh? But Hal Jordan was never big into using giant dicks to take out his enemies. Not to mention a little movie called Catwoman made sure Black's Green Lantern never got off the ground. Thankfully.

"'It would have been a comedy, and I don’t know, maybe they didn’t want to go that way with the character,” the “Margot at the Wedding” star sighed. “You don’t see a lot of the superheroes as comedies. Batman, Superman, Spiderman - they’re all pretty straight-up.'"

Yeah, but Plastic Man could be a comedy. Ambush Bug could be a comedy. Making the live-action equivalent to Watchmen Babies in V for Vacation? No. Not even if Dr. Manhattan fought with giant smiley-faced prophylactics.
