The revered William Hurt is teaming with up-and-coming starlet Amber Heard for "The River Why," based on a novel by David James Duncan. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Heard will play the love interest of Zach Gilford's character Gus Orviston, while Hurt will play Gus's father. THR whips out the CliffNotes to tells us:
The coming-of-age tale centers on a young man named Gus Orviston and his quest for an elusive rainbow trout, which is a metaphor for the man's internal search for self-knowledge.
Thank goodness there's all this depth to the film. Otherwise it'd just be two hours of riveting, glorious fishing. Matt Leutwyler is directing from the screenplay written by Thomas A. Cohen and John Hay Osborn Jr. They're planning to begin shooting next month in Oregon.
Amber Heard has some good projects lined up, namely Bret Easton Ellis' "The Informers" and David Gordon Green's "Pineapple Express." She's also being courted by some atheist websites who want her to be their spokesperson, so she's a very busy lady lately.
