Editorials > Hulk Does Okay at Box Office!

Louis Leterrier's reboot of Marvel's most famous green monster grossed a very good $54.5 million domestically, and $31 million internationally. Oddly enough, "The Incredible Hulk" is being considered a success while 2003's "Hulk" was dubbed a failure and made $62.1 million.

As you can see, our predictions were way off. Domestically speaking, I suppose themick572 was the closest, though he didn't weigh-in on the international numbers. Likewise, hbadam predicted 150 worldwide, but didn't guess how the money would be split up between the U.S. and the rest of the planet.

Sounds like a tie to me, but I suppose it's up to TFG, who volunteered to host this contest and give away prizes, which I fully support. I'm all for reader interaction and participation.

Second place went to "Kung Fu Panda," with $34.3 million. The family fare just barely beat out M. Night Shyamalan's R-rated "The Happening," which overperformed ($30.5 million) for a movie that wasn't supposed to be very good. Everything else was a holdover from previous weeks.

Note: I had shamefully originally written "Hulk Smash Box Office," but a friend reminded me of how lame and anti-factual that was. $54.5 million? Come on. The movie "Lightly Pummeled" at best. I also deleted the first sentence of this article ("But not as hard as we thought he would.") because it wouldn't make sense with the new headline, but the rest remains intact. -DM
