Barack Obama, poised to seize the Democratic nomination any day now, has pulled ahead of the tenacious Hillary Clinton in donations from the entertainment industry by a margin of more than half a million dollars. According to Variety, the end of April numbers from the Center for Responsive Politics indicate that the senator from Illinois has collected $4,022,006 from movie, TV, and music sources, compared to the senator from New York's $3,413,024.
As recently as the end of February, Obama and Clinton were within a few hundred dollars of each other in entertainment contributions. Since then, Obama's superior number of pledged delegates has helped earn him more donors.
Republican candidate John McCain, meanwhile, has raised only $636,046, a figure not so surprisingly considering Hollywood's left-leaning reputation. Probably most of that number came from Governor Schwarzenegger, Tom Selleck, and the estate of Charlton Heston. In any event, whether for better or for worse, Obama is clearly the "limousine liberal" of choice for "morally-crippled Hollywood," and will no doubt be derided as such in the coming months.
