"Entourage" star Adrian Grenier has struck a partnership with John Loar, a financier who will assist Grenier in developing socially conscious documentaries for the actor to produce and direct. The first documentary "Where Are Who Now," Grenier has already been spotted shooting around Hollywood. It is described by Variety as a "paparazzi-themed" movie that "traces the musical odyssey of the Los Angeles band the Good Listeners as they set out to record their third album."
The other documentary is thus far known as "'The Untitled Media Culture Documentary,' which explores the relationship between celebrity and society." Said Grenier of his new business partner, "John Loar and I share the same values. It's exciting to work with someone who wants to put his financial muscle towards creative and socially conscious projects." Loar's other works in development include a biopic about Sugar Ray Leonard which he is producing with actor-comedian Kevin Pollak and baseball manager Tony La Russa.
I respect Grenier for getting behind the camera for projects he really cares about, and I suppose films about the media and celebrity are socially conscious in a way, but on the totem poll of "worthy causes" they're somewhere well below Darfur, Katrina, global climate change, Myanmar, the War on Terror, Wal-Mart, AIDS, national and worldwide poverty, nationalized health-care, the upcoming election, and maybe a dozen other global issues.
