News > Green Lantern Could Be Next Hero to Get the Big Screen Treatment

Written by David Morgan

Warner Brothers has picked Greg Berlanti to direct the live-action feature film based on DC superhero Green Lantern. According to Variety, Berlanti will write the script with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green with Donald De Line acting as producer and Andrew Haas as executive producer.

For those wondering if the actor selected to play GL for this film would be the same one as for the upcoming Justice League movie, the answer so far seems to be "Probably not." Both Variety and the Hollywood Reporter describe the Green Lantern in this movie as the Hal Jordan incarnation, whereas Justice League seems to be more inclined toward using the John Stewart character. For the uninitiated, Hal Jordan was the character who wore the green power ring during the silver age (the 60s) and beyond (until about the 90s). Jordan is arguably the most well-known Green Lantern of the bunch, and there have been quite a few. John Stewart first put on the power ring in the early 1970s, has popped up intermittently in the comics ever since, and was the one used in the Justice League animated series. There have been rumors that rapper Common might play John Stewart in Justice League. Traditionally Hal Jordan has always been depicted as white, but that shouldn't necessarily be a big deal. There's always the chance that WB will put pressure on Berlanti and his crew to make the switch to Stewart anyway, so as to achieve some sort of continuity between the two productions. Who knows?

This is one instance where I hope they mess with the source material slightly, because traditionally Hal Jordan's weakness is the color yellow, and that's easily one of the sillier weaknesses out there.

I honestly can see Wesley Snipes playing Stewart (my personal favorite incarnation). He has the voice, he has the look, and most of all he has the attitude that Stewart has
