The legendary XBOX 360 game from Microsoft and Epic Games, Gears of War, has gotten a new financial backer and co-producer in Legendary Pictures in its move to the big screen. Originally set up at New Line, Legendary Pictures is now partnering with Warner Bros. to bring the violent action title into theaters.

The storyline follows a team of soldiers as a world's last hope, fighting against an alien invasion by creatures known as the Locust. The sequel to the hit game is due out in November.

The script is being written by Chris Morgan and the film will be directed by Len Wiseman.

Legendary is also developing a World of Warcraft movie.
