There was a surprising amount of sci-fi news today. For starts, Kirk and Scotty are reportedly nearly casted. Mike Vogel is up for the spot of James Kirk while Paul McGillion has auditioned for the role of Montgomery Scott. They aren't exactly big stars, but they look the part reasonably well and I understand (from the limited research I've done on the matter) that McGillion has a strong fan following from his work as a Scottish doctor on Stargate: Atlantis. As soon as the confirmation comes in, we'll let you know. And then we'll only need speculate about McCoy, Sulu, and potentially Nurse Chapel.

David Duchovny said something recently about shooting the X-Files sequel film this December. We're taking that with a grain of salt for the time being since he's the only one who seems to think so as of yet.

The director of Resident Evil: Extinction is talking about filming a vampire movie called Zen in the Art of Slaying Vampires, which sounds more like a follow-up to Max Brooks's Zombie Survival Guide than a horror movie.

Martin Scorsese is working on a George Harrison documentary. Prediction: In about five years there's going to be an incredible box set of Martin Scorsese rock star documentaries. Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, The Band, George Harrison, Wham?

The first trailer for today is for Ladron que roba a ladron, a Spanish-language American comedy from Joe Menendez. A team of thieves set out to con a major con man who's tricked thousands of poor immigrants out of millions by promising them worthless cure-all products. The reviews for this flick have been mostly positive. The trailer doesn't make it look especially funny but I love the premise of a comedy about ripping off one of those phony parasites.

The other trailer is for Feast of Love, a romantic dramedy from nearly-forgotten Oscar-winner Robert Benton (Kramer vs. Kramer, The Human Stain). The reviews have been mixed. One reviewer (Sean Burns from Philadelphia Weekly) said the "nicest thing you can say about Feast of Love is there's a ton of nudity." So, there's that (though I bet it's all Jane Alexander). Also, Morgan Freeman plays the kindly old man who knows everything, and no one can get enough of that.
