It seems we're due for another Bronte adaptation. No, I'm not talking about "Wuthering Heights" starring Natalie Portman. It seems Charlotte Bronte's number one hit "Jane Eyre" is heading back to the screen as well, with Ellen Page playing the lead. According to Variety, Alison Owen is looking to produce the film with BBC Films using Moira Buffini's screenplay. No director has been picked yet.
Variety also points out that "Jane Eyre" is one of the most oft-adapted novels in English literature, with between twenty and thirty films or television series since 1910. The BBC made a television version as recently as last year, earning three Emmys in the process. Obviously people think there's something to be gained from making it again and again, but as far as I'm concerned, they should have quit after 1943's "I Walked with a Zombie."
