News > Ellen Page Out of Raimi's Drag Me to Hell

Written by David Morgan

In the wake of Juno's enormous critical and financial success, Ellen Page found herself a young actress in demand. But unfortunately, of all of the deals she made, she won't be able to honor her commitment to the Raimi brothers and their upcoming horror flick Drag Me to Hell. According to Variety, scheduling conflicts compel her to choose Peacock, a psychological thriller for Mandate, followed by Whip It, Drew Barrymore's directorial debut.

Mandate and Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures released the following statement about the situation:

We were racing to start production so that we could accommodate Ellen’s schedule. But like so many other productions trying to start before the potential SAG strike date, this one needed more time, and we had to push back the start of production.

The film's startdate had only been postponed fourteen days, from March 17 to March 31st, but that must have been just enough to throw things out of whack. I don't know anything about Peacock, but I hope it's worth giving up the chance to star in an old school Raimi horror comedy.
