HNR reports that Scott Derrickson will be handling the (absolutely unnecessary) remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still.
You may know Derrickson; he's the guy that directed The Exorcism of Emily Rose, one of the most unequivocally "okay" horror movies of the past few years.
There's really not much to say – The Day the Earth Stood Still doesn't need a remake (it works perfectly as a Cold War paranoia piece, and doesn't have to have its setting changed to 2006 just to prove timely), and Derrickson's attachment to the project doesn't somehow justify its existence.
