It is fast becoming a trend for film studios to option comic books for film development before the comic has even established an audience. Case in point, Dimensions Films buying the rights to Joe Hill's Locke & Key series less than a week after its first issue was released.
Dimension hopes to develop this latest series from IDW Publishing (30 Days of Night) as a potential horror franchise:
"Story revolves around a trio of children who become the caretakers of Keyhouse, a mansion in New England that is full of secrets and magic. The kids discover doors that take them to different places, give them powers and even alter gender and skin color. Behind one door is a dangerously violent creature."
Writer Joe Hill, son of horror master Stephen King, already has his debut novel Heart-Shaped Box in development for the screen at Warner Brothers. Not a bad start to a writing career, though the poor guy does look a bit like his father.
