New York stand-up comedian Demetri Martin is in negotiations to play Elliot Tiber, the lead role in Ang Lee's "Taking Woodstock." Based on Tiber's memoirs, the film follows "an in-the-closet gay man working at his parents' motel in the Catskills, who inadvertently sets in motion the generation-defining concert in the summer of 1969." James Schamus is writing the screenplay.
You might know Martin from his stand-up career, or from his recurring "Trendspotting" segment on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," or from his role as "Demetri" in the season finale of "Flight of the Conchords," but this will be his first major acting gig. He's a very funny man and I hope he can pull it off.
