News > David Gordon Green, Danny R. McBride Reteam for "Your Highness"

Director David Gordon Green is getting back together with his old college classmate Danny R. McBride (not to be confused with Danny McBride, the writer of "Underworld") for a new comedy set in a fantastic medieval kingdom entitled "Your Highness." According to Variety, "McBride, who wrote the script with Ben Best, will play an arrogant, lazy prince who must complete a quest to save his father's kingdom." In other words, it's "Billy Madison" with dragons and wizards.

McBride got his film acting start as the character "Bust-Ass" in Green's "All the Real Girls." In my opinion, McBride's role is one of the best things in that movie (though also one of the worst things in the deleted scenes on the DVD). Since then he's appeared in "Hot Rod," "Drillbit Taylor," and he plays the lead in "The Foot Fist Way," which starts its limited release today.

I appreciate that David Gordon Green isn't completely pretentious, refusing to make anything but slow-paced, exquisitely beautiful independent dramas like his brilliant breakthrough "George Washington," but I wonder about this recent spree of slacker comedies. "Pineapple Express" looks like it has potential, but it could also just as easily be one hyper-extended pot joke that's too thin to spread over 90 minutes.
