News > Cromwell, Burstyn Cast as Senior Bushes in W.

Written by David Morgan

James Cromwell will play former president George H. W. Bush with Ellen Burstyn as his wife Barbara in Oliver Stone's biopic about their eldest son, W.Josh Brolin has already been cast as current president George W. Bush with Elizabeth Banks playing First Lady Laura Bush. The film will follow the title character through his formative years through his occupation of the White House.

Stone wrote the screenplay with Wall Street co-writer Stanley Weiser. They're hoping to have the film released by the general election in November, or at least before Bush leaves office in January. Shooting begins in Shreveport, LA in April.

Finally, some age-appropriate casting. Cromwell's voice is a bit deep to play the senior Bush, but he's got the look down so well I'm nearly surprised this hasn't come up earlier. And Ellen Burstyn can't be beat, either. Ever.

If she were 22 and looked like that, yeah, she'd probably have a hard time finding acting roles. But as 75-year-olds go, you could do worse.
