Nu Image/Millennium Films has struck a deal for North American distribution rights deal with Lionsgate for a series of movies (trilogy perhaps) based on Robert E. Howard's muscle-bound hero. Variety reports the movie is set to go into production later this year with a projected budget of $100 million. That is of course if they come to a resolution with the writer's strike.
The first film in the franchise will be written by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer. The writing duo's most notable piece of work is Sahara Obvious candidates for the lead role of Conan are John Cena, The Rock and Mike O'Hearn aka Titan from American Gladiators.
I'm just hoping they make this series as brutal as Howard's stories. After all, Conan was a f*cking barbarian who literally raped and pillaged when he had to. I wonder which version of Conan we're going to get: the 70s Chronicles of Conan or Darkhorse's Conan from just a few years ago. Actually, I don't really care which one we get as long as the movie is R-rated. What do you guys think?
