Columbia pictures has purchased the rights to Colin Beavan's No Impact Man, an upcoming nonfiction book about Beavan and his family's yearlong attempt to lead a completely green lifestyle in Manhattan. Escape Artists' Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch will produce the feature adaptation.
Beavan told Variety, "I set out to eliminate the negative net impact we made, while creating a positive impact so that we could be as close as possible to creating no net impact. If the typical cosmopolitan New Yorker can do it, anybody can."
Beavan and his family went without electricity, air-conditioning, no car, and not even public transportation due to the carbon emissions. They ate only local, seasonal, natural foods as creating a demand from distant foods would indirectly result in carbon emissions.
The main benefits from Beavan's point of view were the 20 pound weight loss, and getting to spend more time with his daughter. Aww shucks.
