Big news for people who like to hear about inconsequential pairings of studios and directors- "Spider-Man" and "Evil Dead" helmer Sam Raimi will team up with his Spidey studio for a big screen adaptation of the upcoming Dennis Lehane novel "The Given Day."
The film takes place in Boston in 1919 and deals with disease, union uprising and soldiers coming home from war. Phew. Sounds good but incredibly complicated, so… good luck with THAT, Sam Raimi.
Lehane previously wrote the novel to big screen books "Mystic River," "Gone Baby Gone" and "Shutter Island" (this one's still in production and is directed by Scorsese and stars DiCaprio).
Anyone else a bit disturbed by this novel optioning before the book's even out? Not that I have any legitimate complaint about it, but shouldn't the studios wait to see if anyone actually likes the book first?
