Recent Oscar-nominee Casey Affleck has been recruited to star in The Kind One, a period film noir based on a recent novel by Tom Epperson (co-writer of The Gift with friend Billy Bob Thornton). According to Variety, the story is set in the 1930s Los Angeles, and it "centers on an amnesiac (Affleck) who finds himself working for a mobster – a sadistic killer given the nickname "the Kind One" – and falling in love with the thug's girlfriend."

Epperson is planning to adapt his novel (which came out on January 22nd) after the strike is over. Former Ben Affleck producing partner Sean Bailey is financing the film through his new company Idealogy.
