News > Carl Franklin set to Snitch

Director Carl Franklin (One True Thing, High Crimes) is preparing to direct a thriller for New Line called Snitch, says Hollywood Reporter. The film is inspired by a true story that was featured in the PBS documentary series Frontline. The story follows a father whose son is facing 30 years in jail after being set up in a drug deal. The father goes undercover in the drug world to bust the real people responsible and free his son. The screenplay is by Justin Haythe (The Clearing).

With the right cast that could be quite a film. I'm curious if legally one could do those things. Assuming the father is not a cop, can a citizen "go undercover" in the drug world, acquire evidence and make a citizen's arrest without completely messing up due process and thus letting the bad guys go free? I suppose it's possible he could be working directly for the police and thus would be able to operate. In any event, I like the sound of it.
