News > Carl Franklin set to Snitch
Written by David Morgan
Director Carl Franklin (
One True Thing,
High Crimes) is preparing to direct a thriller for New Line called
Snitch, says
Hollywood Reporter. The film is inspired by a true story that was featured in the PBS documentary series
Frontline. The story follows a father whose son is facing 30 years in jail after being set up in a drug deal. The father goes undercover in the drug world to bust the real people responsible and free his son. The screenplay is by Justin Haythe (
The Clearing).
With the right cast that could be quite a film. I'm curious if legally one could do those things. Assuming the father is not a cop, can a citizen "go undercover" in the drug world, acquire evidence and make a citizen's arrest without completely messing up due process and thus letting the bad guys go free? I suppose it's possible he could be working directly for the police and thus would be able to operate. In any event, I like the sound of it.
