Tim Burton is partnering with Disney to produce and direct 3-D versions of Alice in Wonderland and a feature version of his short film, Frankenweenie.
Burton's Alice will rely on motion-capture a~la Beowulf, while Frankenweenie will be shot in stop-motion and then switched to 3-D according to Variety. No cast is attached to either film, but we assume Johnny Depp would make a rather appropriate Mad Hatter or Caterpillar.
On the opposite end of the field, John Wayne's Hondo may get a wide theatrical release–again! The 3-D Western was made in 1953 and shot using an early system for the visual trick according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film was recently cleaned and refurbished to screen earlier this week in California and last year at the Cannes Film Festival. The current print, however, is still shaky and couldn't be mass-produced. But we can dream.
