According to Variety, British director Danny Boyle's next project Slumdog Millionaire has been given the go ahead by Celador Films and Film 4. Based on true events, the film concerns an illiterate young boy from Mumbai who wins the Indian version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Dev Patel (who appeared in Channel 4's Skins) has been cast in the lead.
The screenplay has been written by Simon Beaufoy of The Full Monty fame, while Boyle's frequent collaborator Anthony Dod Mantle will take over cinematographer duties alongside an Indian crew.
Boyle's been talking this up here and there for months now, this is more or less just an official word that it will be made. So there you go. One more thing to look forward to in 2009.
